The Story?

What can I say. It is pretty amazing how the universe gently guides us when we surrender to the possibilities.
Being a small business owner was not even on the radar for me, truthfully this all came to be unexpectedly.
As a lover of design with a keen desire to experience something new I answered the call.

My career is compiled of over 20 years on the business side of the fitness and wellness industries,
as well as 10 years spent in graphic design, print and digital advertising. When I came across Biophilic
Design I was intrigued about the many benefits given my life's dedication and adoration for wellness.

Did my worlds just collide? Maybe.
Being that I am intrinsically creative I am certainly excited to see where this journey takes me.

From the heart of the Canadian Saskatchewan prairies, thank you for the warm welcome
and for pushing me to challenge myself on an exciting new adventure!
. In a world full of trends, I want to remain a classic .

Welcome to The Moss Design Co.
We harness the power of nature in our Artisan Designs to create inspirational spaces.
What is Biophilia?
The word biophilia originates
from the Greek, ‘philia’ meaning
‘love of’
It literally means a love of life
or living things. Humans have a
deeply engrained love of nature
which is an intuitive and natural
drive imprinted into our DNA.
.
Researchers believe this to be a reason that we have thrived as a species, helping us to locate the
most fertile land, cultivate food
and nurture new life. We have a physiological need to be in contact with nature and the natural world.
.
Psychologist, Erich Fromm,
first used the word biophilia
in 1964, when he described it as
“the passionate love of life
and all that is alive”.
.
Biophilia as a concept became
more well known in 1984 following the publishing of the book
‘Biophilia’ by Edward O Wilson,
an American biologist,
Wilson defined it as “the urge to affiliate with other forms of life”.
.
Since then, biophilia has become increasingly recognized by the scientific community and also
by designers and architects.
.
Why Biophilic Design?
Biophilic design is an applied solution to appease a desire
for nature by integrating natural elements and processes into
the built environment.
.
Studies have shown evidence
of positive benefits of human interaction with nature
making Biophilic Design
a desirable design trend.
.

.
Although it’s not alive,
preserved moss is a natural
product that absorbs moisture.
Through a constant cycle of absorption and release of
ambient moisture, airborne
particles are removed.
.
Preserved Moss in Biophilic Design
Preserved Moss Art and Decor
are a low/no maintenance way to transport the beauty and benefits of nature into your home, office, or commercial space without the
added commitment of maintenance.
.
Apart from enhancing the
ambience of a room with its
intense natural energy, including preserved moss in your interior
design creates a stunning focal
point in your space that also
offers great acoustic insulation.
Which can be a real benefit for reducing noise pollution in busy locations like shopping centers,
office buildings, restaurants,
schools and universities, a robust workspace, or a bustling house.
.
Our designs are made from moss
and ferns which have been harvested sustainably and preserved through
an eco-friendly process, with natural ingredients. This replaces the water
in the cell structure. As a result they don’t need light or water and
are built to last for years.
.
We don't forage and process our products ourselves. We work with experts in the field in both the Canadian and US markets.
